A structural-functional study on the photosynthetic apparatus of cucumber plants, grown at increasing levels of heavy metals (Cu, Zn and Cd) was carried out at control conditions. It was established that the most sensitive to heavy metals stress are net photosynthetic rate and electron transport rate; therefore they could be used as indicators for metal toxicity in plant test systems.
