Since the strawberry, caused by Colletotrichum acutatum was registered in 2001 for the first time in the region of Plovdiv, a lot of new loci have been found during fields surveys (2004/05) which have covered 376 strawberry fields and an acreage of 530 ha. The disease has been found in all 7 visited districts but not in one. It was established that almost half of the strawberry fields have been infected and the anthracnose has been predominantly presented in the Southern part of that country. Spread has reached more than 90% in some countries, whereas the portion of diseased plants has averaged from single numbers to a level of 50% or even more in particular fields. No visible differences were found within the symptoms of all 32 strawberry cultivars observed.
