This paper is a work-in-progress account of ideas and propositions about adaptive capacity of agriculture. Adaptation refers to adjustments in complex social-ecological systems in response to actual or expected environmental stimuli and their effects or impacts. The investigation uses a systemic perspective to identify and analyze the conceptual relations among vulnerability, reliance, and adaptive capacity within agrarian systems. The main directions and possibilities for a successful adaptation of Bulgarian agriculture are discussed.
