The presented theoretical survey provides a methodology for the measurement of the thickness of the soil chip of a vertical rotary active drive soil tillage unit.
The soil chip thickness is defined as the length of the normal to the inner trochoid, limited between its intersections with the trajectories of two vertical blades working consequently during the formation of the soil chip.
It is found that the soil chip thickness depends on the diameter of the rotor and the kinematic parameter and its maximum equals the spacing.
