31. Analysis of the farming systems for rearing of the local Kalofer Longhaired goats

The local Kalofer Longhaired goats have become the subject of research relatively recently. With a view to sustainable development and conservation of this endangered genetic resource, it is necessary to analyze the farming systems for rearing this breed. The survey covers 14 farms. Basic income provided by the Kalofer longhaired goat rearing in the region of Blagoevgrad is the skin for making mummer costumes. The farmers who milk their goats are a minority – 5 respondents. Another product forming the total income for farmers is the goat meat and kids for breeding. Most farmers sell kids, the price per kilogram live weight is 7-10 BGN.
