This article aims at presenting the challenges and prospects for the creation and development of experiences in sports and entertainment tourism in Bulgaria. In this research report the essence of sports and entertainment tourism is reviewed, the factors that influence its development, the main types of sports and entertainment tourism, the opportunities for its development and the potential of Bulgaria as a destination for sports and entertainment tourism. The benefits of the development of this form of alternative tourism and all problems related to its development and enforcement as the main form of tourism in the country are also touched upon. Statistics is provided for tourist visits to the country and a SWOT analysis of sports and entertainment tourism is made. The competitive opportunities for developing this type of tourism and fundamental practices in Bulgaria which contribute to the effective promotion of sports and leisure tourism are discussed. The basic destinations in Bulgaria for sports and entertainment tourism are presented as well as issues that affect its development in the country are addressed. Finally, some conclusions and recommendations for the future establishment of Bulgaria as a destination for experiences in sports and entertainment tourism are presented.
